Do you still remember Operation Eagle Claw? Or Operation Credible Sport?

Well, for the convenience of those US generals and advisors planning a bombing campaign against Iran, allow me to refresh your memory.

I think the idea was based on the Entebbe Raid, July 4 1976, carried out by Israel elite forces against Idi Amin’s Uganda government. A plane was hijacked and landed, after some diversions, at Entebbe airport in Uganda where 248 passengers, mostly Israeli, were held hostage. Under the code name Operation Thunderbolt Israeli operatives flew in and in a perfectly executed operation, released the hostages.

So when the US embassy in Iran under Ayatollah Khomeini was invaded and a large number of its staff taken hostage, naturally steps had to be taken. The great America could never allow these ‘religiously insane’ thugs to get away with it. It was a huge embarrassment and something had to be done.

President Carter approved a secret mission named Operation Eagle Claw and styled in the tradition of Operation Thunderbolt. Wikipedia: : “On the night of April 24, 1980, as the first part of the operation, a number of C-130 transport airplanes met up with eight RH-53 helicopters at an airstrip in the Great Salt Desert of Eastern Iran, near Tabas. Two helicopters broke down in a sandstorm and a third one was damaged on landing. The mission was aborted, but as the aircraft took off again one helicopter clipped a C-130 and crashed, killing eight U.S. servicemen and injuring several more. In Iran, Khomeini’s prestige skyrocketed as he credited divine intervention on behalf of Islam for the mission’s failure”

True to American resolve and refusal to accept defeat, a second rescue mission was planned, this time under the code name Operation Credible Sport. Three YMC -130H Hercules aircraft was suped-up and fitted with rocket thrusters to allow for extremely short landing and take-off from a soccer field. During a demonstration the braking rockets were fired too soon and the aircraft crashed in flames of fire. As a result the operation was abandoned and the US had to sit and wait until that day when the Ayatollah saw fit to release the hostages.

I am under the impressing that calamities always strike in 3’s. That was No 2.

Now I read in Haaretz.com  an article under the title U.S. said mulling ’surgical’ strikes on Revolutionary Guards in Iran”. You will understand my immediate fear for the safety of ….., no not of the Iranians but of the Americans! Remember, I’m waiting for No 3 to happen.

The New Yorker magazine reported Monday that the U.S. defense chiefs have drawn up new plans for a possible attack on Iran, shifting the focus from a broad bombing assault on suspected nuclear facilities, to “surgical” strikes on Revolutionary Guard bases in Tehran and elsewhere.”

As I understood it, it was the fact that Iran is developing nuclear bombs that necessitates an attack. The argument would be that Iran with nuclear capability would pose a threat to the safety and security of the US and its American pit-bull special, Israel. As Israel in itself possesses more than 30 nuclear heads of its own, I do not really understand the argument, but none the less ….

It is further reported that ““The revised bombing plan for a possible attack, with its tightened focus on counterterrorism, is gathering support among generals and admirals in the Pentagon,” the report states. “The strategy calls for the use of sea-launched cruise missiles and more precisely targeted ground attacks and bombing strikes, including plans to destroy the most important Revolutionary Guard training camps, supply depots, and command and control facilities.”

Do you understand how the American mind works? If so, please explain it to me bacause I’m lost….
