America is searching for a new president. Looking at all the candidates, Republican as well as Democratic, most of them would seem to be a huge improvement on what they have at the moment. Surely the present regime will go down in history as the one that almost had the US, its constitution and everything Americans stand for, on its knees.

But looking at the last Republican debate I could find little principle and moral that did not come from opinion polls.  Candidates were  saying what they believe voters want to hear. Of strong character, moral strength and sincere conviction little could be seen.

In regard to the declared policy  of most of the candidates, what struck me most, as an outsider,  was the inclination to ‘fortify’ the US against the outside world.  As with the Great Wall of China, the Israel Wall, the Berlin Wall and all those medieval barricades, a fence are to be constructed between the US and Mexico.  The ‘invasion’ must be stopped and, although nobody believes that the fence will solve the problem (it never did in any other instance), it at least appeals to voters.

It is obvious that the US does not have the same problem with Canada at its northern border. Canadians presumably do not invade the US in search of a better future. They have a strong economy and a stable government.  With that in mind, would not it be a better solution, in regard to the south, to promote economic growth on the Mexican side?  If job opportunities were created in Mexico it would not only stop the in-flow of aliens. It might even succeed in drawing those already in the US back to their native country.

It is my experience that you can buy almost nothing in America that do not come from China. I would think that, outsourcing just some of it to Mexico would greatly aleviate the alien problem.

Just a thought ….

    Hi JC

You are absolutely correct about the wall. What do you think of Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul? To me those are the only two candidates that are actually addressing the real issues and not just talking the talk.

    regards

    Hi Neville,
I agree with you in regard to Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul. I am however afraid that they do not have the carisma to carry them through. JCG.
